Plantronics GameCom 777 headset has Dolby 7.1 support

Plantronics on Thursday introduced its latest gaming headset, the GameCom 777. It gets virtual 7.1 surround sound from Dolby Headphone and Dolby ProLogic IIx. The noise-cancelling microphone housed in the boom allows for two-way communication, and the boom can be detached.

There are both USB and analog connections, though to get the full Dolby 7.1 experience, a Dolby USB sound card or another form of decoding is required. A remote comes in-line and controls both volume and muting the mic. The headphones' individual speakers are 40mm across and have a frequency response range between 20Hz and 20kHz.

The GameCom 777 works with both Macs and Windows PCs and will ship later in June, though pricing has not been revealed.
